Kate Robertson’s Ambitious Vision for One Young World and the G20 Leaders

In a world often divided by political ideologies and national interests, Kate Robertson, co-founder
of One Young World, presents a compelling vision for the future. She imagines a
scenario where G20 leaders not only hold political power but also embody the
values and ideals championed by One Young World, a global forum committed to
empowering young leaders.

Kate Robertson’s perspective is rooted in her belief that the challenges of the 21st
century—climate change, economic inequality, and peace-building—require a new
kind of leadership. “Better leadership would change a lot of things,”
she asserts. Her experiences growing up under apartheid in South Africa have
profoundly influenced her understanding of the transformative power of ethical
and just leadership.

One Young World has emerged as a significant platform for nurturing young leaders who are ready to
take on global challenges. By providing these young minds with opportunities to
share ideas, innovate, and collaborate, Robertson aims to integrate them into
the highest levels of global decision-making. “Can we find these young
leaders in the hope of better leadership?” she asks, emphasizing the urgency of the moment.

One Young World has made significant strides, as evidenced by its 2022 impact report. Over
5.7 million people have been touched by One Young World’s ambassador-led
projects. Additionally, scholarships were awarded to recipients from 176
countries, with 629 scholars participating in 2022. This competitive program
has attracted more applicants than some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Ella Robertson McKay, managing director of One Young World and daughter of Kate Robertson,
shares her mother’s commitment. She outlines their mission: “to inspire,
build, and elevate young leaders because we believe that at the heart of every
global threat is a lack of leadership.”

Through initiatives like Lead2030, which funds sustainable development goals, One Young World
continues to impact young leaders worldwide. Since its launch in 2019, Lead2030
has allocated $2,075,000 to 40 young leaders across 21 countries.

Kate Robertson envisions a future where the influence of One Young World extends to the
highest corridors of power, transforming not just the G20 but the world at
large. See related link for additional information.
