Gulf Coast Western Invites Partners To Visit Well Sites
Spreadsheets and projections only go so far in convincing someone to invest in an oil well. Gulf Coast Western, the Dallas based oil and gas exploration firm, has built part of its investor relations approach around a more direct method: flying partners out to see active drilling sites for themselves.
Chief operating officer John Engel describes the practice as one of the clearest ways to demonstrate what a venture partner’s money is actually funding. Speaking on the “Wealthability for CPAs” podcast, Engel compared the experience to real estate, noting there is no better way to understand where an investment is going than watching a well being drilled in person.
Not Every Firm Extends The Invitation
Engel acknowledged that plenty of operators will say they welcome due diligence in theory, telling prospective partners they understand the desire to look closely at a deal. Fewer are willing to put partners on a plane and show them the operation directly. Gulf Coast Western treats the field trip offer as a standing part of how it does business rather than an occasional courtesy extended only to its biggest clients. The company’s acquisition of 100 square miles of 3D seismic data in Lafayette, Louisiana, through its purchase of Orbit Energy Partners LLC assets, demonstrates just how much it values accurate subsurface intelligence when planning operations.
Investors who have taken the company up on it describe it as decisive. One reviewer, identified only as Bob C., said the trip was the most valuable part of his decision to invest, calling it the chance to kick the tires of the very ventures he was considering backing. He noted the visit came alongside written materials that laid out both the upside and the downside of the project honestly, using conservative assumptions rather than best case promises.
Seeing The Operation Firsthand
For Gulf Coast Western, the logic is straightforward. A well site visit cannot substitute for financial due diligence, but it gives partners a direct look at the equipment, the crew, and the process behind the numbers, closing the gap between a pitch deck and an actual operating well drawing oil out of the ground.
