Kelcy Warren’s Historic Gift Elevates UT Arlington’s Engineering Program
Kelcy Warren, the executive chairman of Energy Transfer LP, has made an unprecedented philanthropic contribution
to the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), marking the largest single
donation in the institution’s history. This $12 million gift is set to
transform UTA’s College of Engineering by supporting the newly established
Resource and Energy Engineering (REE) program.
This generous gift will primarily fund the creation of the Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in
REE, designed to attract a leading faculty member who will elevate the
program’s academic caliber. Additionally, two Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty
Fellowships will be established to bring in distinguished scholars, enhancing
the educational experience for students.
In a bold move to prepare students for the challenges of the energy industry, Kelcy Warren’s funding will support the development of cutting-edge laboratory
spaces and equipment. These facilities aim to provide faculty and students with
the tools necessary to explore and address contemporary energy challenges.
Moreover, the Kelcy Warren Career Experience Center will offer valuable
experiential learning opportunities, including internships and co-ops, crucial for gaining practical industry insights.
Scholarships named Warren Scholars will be available to undergraduate students, alleviating
financial barriers and ensuring educational access. Similarly, Kelcy Warren Fellows will receive fellowship support for graduate
students pursuing careers in the energy sector.
Scheduled to commence in fall 2023, the REE bachelor’s degree program is poised to be the
first of its kind in the United States. By integrating engineering principles
with both conventional and renewable energy sources, UTA aims to produce
graduates who understand the delicate balance between engineering and business interests.
As a member of the UT System Board of Regents and a UTA Distinguished Alumnus, Kelcy Warren’s
continued support exemplifies his commitment to fostering education and
innovation in the energy field. Through his contributions, Warren is not only
enhancing UTA’s reputation but also ensuring that the university remains a
leader in producing highly-skilled graduates ready to tackle future energy
challenges. See related link for more information.
